April 4, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) Incumbent candidate Bernadette McDonald has taken the lead in our Kearny Board of Education poll. The lead however has come under attack by supporters of John Munro who contend that the number of votes cast in a span of two hours on Easter Sunday is evidence of vote tampering.

KOTW recognizes that our Polling is not exactly scientific. Someone who wants to bypass our one vote per day policy can with a little effort. Even without bypassing our one vote per day policy, individuals can vote more than once by visiting the site everyday or by using a second computer on the same day.

April 4, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) KOTW wishes everyone that is celebrating Easter a very Happy Easter to you, your family and friends.

March 30, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) Superintendent of Kearny's Public Schools Frank Digesere will be holding a public school budget hearing on Thursday April 1, 2010.

The hearing will be held at Lincoln School, 101 Beech Street, Kearny, New Jersey at 7 p.m. The school budget is $76.4 million up from $76.2 million. The school budget will increase the school tax by 4 percent according to a published report.

March 31, 2010 (Harrison, NJ) Harrison Public School Superintendent James Doran announced that he is seeking to cut the school budget by 1.6 million in the 2010-11 school year. The Harrison Board of Education has only approved the cutting of $800,000 leaving another $800,000 cuts to be made. Superintendent Doran blames Governor Christie for cutting Harrison's aid. Governor Christie cut the Town of Harrison the amount of the excess surplus that the Harrison Board of Education had above the 2% surplus allowed by state guidelines. Therefore, Harrison may have surplus money to make up the funds cut by Governor Christie.

The Kearny school district has a budget hearing tomorrow, April 1, 2010. There are no budget cuts in the agenda despite cuts in Kearny's state aid. The state cuts are being made up by the shifting of surplus budget monies to cover monies withheld by the state.

March 28, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) Civilly committed sex offenders who are currently being detained in the Hudson County Jail in South Kearny will be moved by May 2010 to Woodbridge. The Department of Corrections was forced to move the sex offenders under a court order.

The Township of Woodbridge did receive a major concession from the State of New Jersey in exchange for the acceptance of the sex offenders to the population of the East Jersey State Prison, the closure of an outpatient Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center which treats eighty sex offenders. It is far more dangerous to the public to have outpatient sex offenders visiting Woodbridge than to have an additional 150 civilly committed sex offenders incarcerated in the high security section of the East Jersey State Prison.
