April 20, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) The preliminary results of the Kearny Board of Education Election have two challengers, Robert O'Malley and George King, garnering the most votes followed by incumbent Bernadette McDonald as a third top vote getter. The top three vote getters win a seat on the Kearny Board of Education.

Robert O'Malley received 1291 votes. George King received 1286 votes. Bernadette McDonald received 1220 votes. John Munro received 1200 votes. Alan Doffont received 1180 votes. Joseph Sgalia received 1065 votes. Personal Choice received 9 votes. There were a total of 7251 votes cast.

Absentee ballots votes are not included in the above tallies. There is a possibility that if there are a significant number of absentee ballots that the election results could change between the third and fourth vote getters -- Bernadette McDonald and John Munro. The vote difference between McDonald and Munro is 20 votes.



The voter turnout was almost double the voter turnout from the 2009 Kearny School Board Election. The total votes for the Kearny Board 2009 Election were 3909. While the 2010 Election garnered 7251 votes.

The Election results may be challenged and/or the candidates can request a recount of the votes to insure that the reported voting machine results were accurate. There may also be challenges to particular voters who may not have not had the right to vote in town because of residency. Absentee ballots may also be challenged on similar grounds or on the clarity of the intended vote.
