April 18, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) The Kearny School Board Election will be held this Tuesday, April 20, 2010. The polls will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. KOTW will have the poll results as soon as they become available.

KOTW has experienced increased traffic from a very heated discussion surrounding the Kearny Board of Education Election. The thread simply entitled "BOE" in the Kearny section of our Discussion Board has generated over 379 reply posts and almost 14,000 views. Our Poll entitled "Who's Your First Pick for Kearny Board of Education?" generated controversy when it became apparent that someone circumvented our one vote per day policy and voted on multiple occasions on the same day for one candidate. The votes that count however will be cast this coming Tuesday at the polls in Kearny.

Registered voters can vote for up to three candidates on Election Day. There are two tickets seeking your vote. The incumbent school board members are Bernadette McDonald, Alan Doffant, and Joe Sgalia. The Challengers are John Munro, George King and Bob O'Malley. It is not necessary to vote for all three candidates on the slate. Three votes can be split among all the candidates running for office.

The key to Tuesday's Election will be voter turnout. In an election that traditionally has a very small voter turnout, every vote counts. The incumbents have an advantage because their supporters are highly motivated to come out and cast their votes. The Challengers have to be very well organized to insure that voters come out to the polls to cast their votes. The crucial get out the vote period will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. when residents return from work and must be reminded to come out to the polls.

Good luck to all. The Discussions on KOTW have been very interesting. Hopefully, the voters have had an opportunity to make an informed decision on who they want sitting on the Kearny Board of Education.
