February 17, 2010 (Harrison, NJ) The Red Bulls Job Fair drew over 1,000 applicants for 500 part time jobs at the arena. Individuals started lining up in the cold weather outside the stadium hours before the doors were scheduled to open.

The Job Fair caused a traffic jam as applicants converged on Harrison in hopes of landing a job. Clearly the poor economy and the prospect of a job, even a part time one, drew many applicants from varying backgrounds in search of employment. Many applicants appeared eager to work at the stadium and got an opportunity to peer out onto the playing field.

Red Bulls' management must make some quick hiring decisions as there are only a few weeks left before the stadium opens to the public. One is left wondering if there is enough time to adequately train over 500 employees to handle the crowds expected for the opening game on March 20th against Brazilian Soccer Team Santos. If the stadium fills to capacity, the new employees will have to be well versed in their jobs to make everything run as smoothly as possible. On March 27, 2010, the Red Bulls will open their 2010 Season against the Chicago Fire soccer team at the stadium. Ticket information is available at the Red Bulls website.

The Mayor and Council of Harrison are holding a special meeting tomorrow, February 18, 2010 at Noon time. The only item on the Agenda is the amendment of the town's salary ordinance to add a Traffic Officer-Part Time for $25.00 per hour. The Traffic Officer position is for traffic officers during Red Bulls events. It is not clear whether the town will be taking applications for the Traffic Control officer positions or whether it has already filled the positions. The town is scheduled to lay off town employees in March to save $2.75 million a year in salary and benefit costs. The Mayor & Council may want to offer the Traffic Officer positions to some of those town workers. The Traffic Officer position will not have any health, sick or vacation time benefits.

A Red Bulls subcontractor Securitas was recruiting security officers at the Job Fair. Securitas however will not be directing traffic. It is not clear whether the Red Bulls will be reimbursing the Town of Harrison for the additional personnel necessary during stadium events.
