November 3, 2009 (Kearny NJ) It's Election Day. Don't Forget to Get Out and Vote. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. For those of us that have been following both the Governor's race and Kearny's Mayoral and Third Ward races, it will be interesting to see if the polls and the commentary on KOTW's Discussion Board have anything to do with the reality of what individuals will be doing when they go into the voting booth. There is also a question on bonding for open space which has not gotten much press.
In the Governor's race, Republican Candidate Chris Christie has lead in the polls for much of the race. The Democratic parties push in the last few weeks has tightened up the race.
President Barack Obama's appearances last Sunday in Camden and Newark were designed to motivate Democrats to come out to vote. There are however a number of Obama supporters who may be voting for Republican Chris Christie or Independent Candidate Chris Daggett. Independent Candidate Chris Daggett has been accused of being a spoiler by taking away Independent votes from Republican Chris Christie. Christie had a suggestion for Daggett supporter as he cast his vote this morning.
According to a report in PolitickerNJ.com, Candidate Chris Christie stated that he was confident that Independent Governor Candidate Chris Daggett's supporters would realize that Christie needed their vote and they would be casting their support behind Christie.
Politickernj.com quoted Christie as saying:
“Hopefully after I win tonight, this will send a message to other people who running statewide campaigns that you don’t have to run a campaign like Jon Cozine. You don’t have to be a personal attack machine. You don’t have to run down your opponent’s personal reputation in order to win,” he said. “I think one thing that will come out of tonight’s victory is that we’ll have a new way of doing politics in New Jersey, because if Jon Corzine can’t succeed spending all his money, normal candidates won’t be able to succeed either that way anymore.”
