June 2, 2013 (Kearny, NJ) Kearny Mayor Alberto Santos and the members of the Kearny Council took an unprecedented step formally calling out the Mayor of Harrison Raymond McDonough, the Harrison Council and the State of New Jersey Department of Community Services for its reliance on neighboring towns including Kearny in providing fire protection to its residents. In a resolution passed by the Kearny Council, the Town of Kearny reduced the number of Kearny fire companies that will respond to a Harrison Fire Departments request for mutual aid from three companies to two. The Kearny Council threatened to cut their Mutual Fire Aid to one engine next month unless Harrison increases the size of its fire department.

March 28, 2013 (West Hudson County, NJ)Some may have not noticed but Kearny On The Web's Discussion Board was offline for two days as a stop gap measure to stop spammers from flooding the discussion board. The Board returned however in time to allow discussion on two important topics, the Harrison Frank E. Rodgers Blvd fire and the Kearny Board of Education Member and Former Mayoral Candidate John Leadbeater's federal indictment related to mortgage fraud.

KOTW installed a new captcha which requires Members and Guests to complete a simple picture puzzle in order to be able to post to the board. The change stopped the flood of spammers who were inundating the Board with posts which contained links to other websites. Spammers were not able to get their posts to the board but KOTW had been spending a lot of time deleting spammer posts.

January 30, 2013 (Kearny, NJ) Kearny Police have charged Cruz Martinez Jr., 41, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania with the fatal shooting of Alisha Colon, 16, in her Belgrove Drive apartment. February 1, 2013 (East Newark, NJ) Governor Chris Christie greeted and shook patrons hands at Tops Diner in East Newark. Christie who kicked off his campaign for re-election was in East Newark to pick up the public endorsement of Harrison Mayor Raymond McDonough.

Endorsements from members of your own party are not unusual but what makes this endorsement newsworthy is that McDonough is a Hudson County Democrat and the Governor is a Morris County Republican. It is not clear what ramifications there will be from the Hudson County Democratic Party as a result of McDonough's endorsement of the Republican Governor. Hudson County Democrats are good at reading the writing on the wall and it is clear that the Democratic party is having a hard time finding a viable candidate to run against the popular Governor Chris Christie.

Colon was not involved in the fight but other family members were.
